The
History Tamblingan Lake
Before
we talk about which spots we should visit here, let’s have some words about the
history of Tamblingan Lake. Tamblingan Lake is located at the North hillside of
Mount Lesung, around the area of Desa Munduk. It is surrounded by forest and
green hills. This lake is also known as one of the triplet lake alongside with
Buyan and Beratan Lakes. Among the other two lakes, Tamblingan Lake is the
smallest one with the width for about 1.15km2. There is a story how it is named as Tamblingan Lake. It was
happened around the 10th to
14th century BC. There was a settlement located at
Mount Lesung beside the lake. Due to one reason, the villagers decided to move
to four different locations which are still near the lake. Those villages are
now known as Catur Desa (four villages), which are Desa Munduk, Gobleg, Gesing,
and Umejero. One day, there was an epidemic attacked the villages. Then,
someone who was purified went down to the lake to bring the water. With a
prayer and spiritual power of that person, the water was turned to a medicine,
which could heal the people there. Then, the lake has been called as Tamblingan
Lake, which is the combination of two Balinese words; Tamba means medicine, and
Elingang means spiritual ability. Since that time, each of these villages has
such a strong spiritual bond to maintain the purity of the lake as well as the
temples around it.

The
Tourism
Now, after we learn about the
history, let’s get the excitement with the Tamblingan Lake destinations. Bali is known for its beauty
of the beaches, but the lakes have the same beauty too. In this case,
Tamblingan Lake has so many good views. The lake is certainly the main spot in
this place. However, you could also have a walk at the temples around the lake.
There are eleven temples in total, such as Pura Dalem Tamblingan, Pura Endek,
Pura Embang, Pura Tukang Timbang, and many else. About Pura Embang and Tukang
Timbang, it is said that both temples were built by the pre-Hindus before the
10th century BC. Oh yeah, it is important to remember that when you want to
visit Tamblingan Lake, you must bring a jacket due to its cold weather.
Moreover, bring a camera too so you could take some pictures of its magical
views, especially the sunset or sunrise. There are several places you could
choose to stay here, either in a hotel or a guesthouse, such as Karangsari
Guesthouse, Puri Sunny Hotel, or Taman Ayu Homestay.
